The Advancing Women’s+ health through Actionable Research and Epidemiological Exploration (AWARE) research program aims to generate new knowledge about women’s+ reproductive health by carrying out research that can be broadly categorized into 3 focused, yet overlapping, themes:
Sex- and Gender-Based Analysis Plus (SGBA+) is an analytical approach used to formulate responsive and inclusive health research, policies, programs, and services. It considers how factors such as age, gender, race, Indigeneity, and disability influence access to health-related resources and outcomes and can be used to develop initiatives that are equitable and inclusive. For more information about the SGBA+ framework, click here.
AWARE is led by Dr. Amy Johnston, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary.
Dr. Johnston holds a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Science (Health Services Research) and a Master of Biomedical Technology, both from the University of Calgary, and a Bachelor of Science with Honours in biology from Acadia University.
